Mckenna Grace is making a fashion statement as she promotes Sunrise on the Reaping, the Hunger Games prequel where she plays District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner. Her press tour looks blend vintage inspiration with bold personal style, drawing from the franchise’s iconic aesthetic while reflecting her own evolving approach to clothing.
The costumes in Sunrise on the Reaping were designed with a distinct retro influence. Grace revealed that Stevie Nicks served as a key muse for the project’s visuals, shaping its ’60s and ’70s vibe. “Sunrise on the Reaping, at least [on] all the mood boards, there was Stevie Nicks,” the star explained. “It was very ’60s, ’70s-inspired.” Yet Grace’s own style diverges from Nicks’ signature witchy silhouettes.

She cited a past medical procedure as a turning point, noting that it altered how she moves and how clothes fit her. “I had a really big life-changing surgery on my back a few years ago that changed the way I stand and the way that my body looks in clothes, so I feel like my style is kind of ever-evolving,” Grace tol. “Lately, I really enjoy being girly and feminine, and getting to wear skirts and dresses.”
Fashion has long been a source of insecurity for Grace, who previously rejected femininity to avoid being perceived as weak. “When I was a kid, I just wanted to be a tomboy,” she said. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize that—it also doesn’t matter what other people think of me—but just because I’m feminine doesn’t make me weak.” Grace has been working with stylist Molly Dickson. Now, she adopts the opportunity to experiment with looks tied to the franchise, calling it a creative playground. “It’s just homage to all the people that were a part of this franchise before I was.”
Grace’s red carpet appearances reflect this blend of homage and reinvention. In New York, she wore an archival Betsey Johnson babydoll minidress, a nod to Rue’s blue puffed-sleeve interview dress from the original film. The outfit included bejeweled floral shoes and a Judith Leiber butterfly-shaped bag, reinforcing the franchise’s signature motifs. For another event, she chose a Gucci sequined midi dress in gold, sapphire, and red, paired with a ’50s-inspired ponytail and gold sandals.

Butterflies emerge as a recurring theme in Grace’s looks, likely an Easter egg referencing the films. In Newport Beach, she wore a tea-length navy dress adorned with fluttering butterfly embroidery, matching the blue carpet beneath her. The pattern reappeared in Sydney, where she stunned in a pleated pink House of Giles gown, accessorized with butterfly hair clips and a braided hairstyle.
Grace’s style shifts dramatically when she steps outside the Hunger Games universe. At the Academy Museum Gala, she traded pastels for a Calvin Klein-inspired red column gown, echoing the dramatic Oscars look Jennifer Lawrence wore as Katniss in 2011. The gown’s bold silhouette marked a departure from her earlier tour outfits, which leaned toward softer, more playful designs.
