Electronic music in Thailand has a new voice in Ciriya, also known as Kaaofang, a Bangkok-based DJ and producer. Her interest in the genre began through video games before she discovered techno and tech house during her teenage years. She has since become a fixture in the country’s underground electronic music scene, balancing her time behind the decks and on a skateboard.

Two Worlds, One Instinct

Ciriya moves between two distinct environments: the skatepark and the dance floor. She performs as Kaaofang on the board and as Ciriya behind the turntables. The transition between these roles feels natural to her. She describes the experience as sharing the same core instincts, even if the focus shifts from physical movement to reading the room.

“They’re actually quite similar. When I’m skating, I’m more instinctive and physical — I don’t overthink every movement,” she said. “Behind the decks, I’m more focused on reading the room and shaping the energy, but that same instinct is still there.”

Skating requires committing to a trick before knowing the outcome. Ciriya applies this same philosophy to her DJ sets. She has played darker or more rhythmic tracks than a crowd might expect, choosing to ride out the moment rather than correcting the course immediately. She believes this willingness to take risks can create the most memorable moments of a night.

A Guidebook for Bangkok

She connects with the city through specific locations that locals frequent. One of her top recommendations is RK69 DIY Skatepark. The space was built by local skaters and offers a raw, personal atmosphere. Every obstacle in the park is unique, reflecting the community that created it.

For a different side of the city, she suggests Clutch Bar. It is a spot where people gather to listen to music and meet others in the scene. She views these locations as the truest representation of Bangkok compared to the tourist-focused guidebooks. They offer a place to experience the city through the lens of its subcultures.

Releasing the Music

She has a clear vision for her future performances. The most honest version of her sound might come from a set featuring only her own unreleased music. She has tracks sitting on hard drives that have never been released to the public. Sharing these sounds would strip away the safety net of established tracks.
