A full-length mirror is a feature many European hotels neglect, yet it proved essential during a recent stay in Paris. One photographer had to stand on a bathroom sink to check an outfit at a previous hotel, but citizenM Paris Gare de Lyon eliminated this inconvenience by placing a large mirror at the entrance. Guests immediately saw their reflection upon arrival, a detail that made outfit adjustments effortless.

The hotel’s location in the 12th arrondissement, between the Gare de Lyon train station and the Seine River, became a key advantage. While staying near a major transit hub might raise concerns, it offered unmatched convenience during a week packed with fashion events. The photographer attended the Victoria Beckham show in the 1st arrondissement and Issey Miyake’s presentation in the 14th, both easily reached via the station’s direct connections. The short walk to the runway or exhibition hall saved critical time between appointments.

The interior design balances modern functionality with relaxed aesthetics, creating spaces that encourage guests to unwind. Communal areas feature open layouts and natural light, while rooms maintain the brand’s signature compact footprint. The focal point remains a spacious XL king bed, positioned near a large window to maximize natural light. Red accents add visual warmth, and smart controls for lighting, blinds, and climate settings simplify daily adjustments. Upon arrival, a handwritten welcome note, sparkling water, and freshly baked chocolate cookies awaited—small gestures that raised the check-in experience.

The bed itself stood out as a standout feature. Its cloud-like mattress covered nearly the entire end wall, providing ample space for fashion professionals accustomed to tight quarters. The compact closet design may limit storage for guests with extensive luggage, but the television mounted directly across from the bed added a rare luxury. This placement allowed for late-night viewing without disrupting sleep, a consideration often overlooked in hotel design.

Daily breakfast at the hotel’s canteenM became a consistent highlight. The buffet included both hot and cold selections, with particular praise for the pain au chocolat, which met expectations for Parisian quality. The on-site restaurant also served as a quiet workspace, eliminating the need to search for external cafés during a demanding schedule. With food and beverages available around the clock, the hotel ensured guests could address hunger or caffeine needs at any hour without leaving the premises.

The hotel’s greatest asset proved to be its strategic location. Paris Fashion Week requires constant movement between shows, meetings, and appointments, and the proximity to Gare de Lyon streamlined transit. Rather than contend with crowded streets or unreliable taxi services, the photographer could board a train with minimal delay. This efficiency allowed for better focus on the week’s obligations rather than logistical challenges.
